The increase in these sedentary jobs and activities have become another important cause of obesity.

  1. The lack of proper sleep may sometimes lead to the increase in body weight.
  2. Pollution in the total atmosphere is also able to affect the hormone functioning of the body, which will in turn affect the weight of the body.
  3. If the temperature of the atmosphere is either hotter or colder than the normal range required, the human body will burn more calories in order to be in alignment with the temperature outside. Americans, usually use air conditioners, which will control the temperature according to their comfort, even when they are at home or at work. So the over usage of the air conditioners can also lead to the increase in the body weight.
  4. The increase in the consumption of medicines like contraceptives, hormone tablets, diabetes medicines, antidepressants, drugs to normalize the blood pressure; all have the ability to promote weight gain. The consumption of these types of medicines also increases day by day.
  5. Studies also reveal that the women, who conceive and give birth to children at an older age have an increased chance of producing obese offspring. The numbers of woman who give birth at an older age has increased dramatically. The union of obese parents can also increase the chance of obesity in their children, as obese people generally prefer obese spouses.

Though all these factors have an important impact in increasing the obesity, there can be some other reasons too. It may be prudent to state that there is a high probability that obesity is not as a result of only one factor but many factors combined. Look for and research all the known causes of obesity and cut them out one by one. This is one way that an individual can walk the path to better health.
